'Poothampattu - Bard of the Lost Spirit' 2008

Poothampattu is the story of the folklore ghost who makes an appearance on every courtyard after the harvest season dancing to the accompaniments of drums and cymbals. Based on a poem written by Edasseri Govindan Nair in the early 1950s and set in the Northern hills of Kerala, the southernmost state of India, the bard epitomizes the strength and love of a mother.

The dance drama was set in the Bharatanatyam style with English narrations. The production commenced with a folk festival presenting traditional folk dances from different parts of India. The production was led by Suhasini Muthukrishnan and Savitha Viswanathan, alumni of Kalakshetra School of Fine Arts, Chennai.
